Silverlink

Photographed between 1998 and 2010, Silverlink began as an exploration of the social divisions along a railway line running through London’s northern inner suburbs. Travelling between contrasting places, from affluent Richmond to deprived Woolwich, I became increasingly interested in the people, neighbourhoods and everyday life connected by the line. The project continued until the Kodachrome film I was using was discontinued, leaving behind an extensive photographic record of a changing city.

Emerging from my archive, this work reflects on the emptiness of the Blair years, the consequences of rail privatisation and the disappearance of public life in post-Thatcherite Britain. It also celebrates those who knew Silverlink, particularly the graffiti writers who left their mark along the route. Featuring an essay by Panik, this limited-edition softback book contains 164 pages and measures 240 × 340 mm. Limited to 1,000 copies.
